It's been 84 years...
One day I'll meet with a gal named Constance, not today tho.
Some weeks ago I was helping an old woman with her computer woes and she tells me about her grandson, who is trans masc and as an old person, she is concerned, because, well, people of that age often didn't have much in the way of being exposed to stuff. ( I am a master of the English language, sorry, this is what peak expression looks like )
But yeah she does the whole “oh she used to be such a cute little girl”, didn't manage to not misgender him once and was concerned for his well being because hormone treatment is scary ( he is 16, he is probably just on puberty blockers anyway ).
Of course this stems from her concern for him , but it's probably still very upsetting from the grandson point of view.
So since I was mostly doing routine stuff and had time, that she was a long time client I'm fond of and that I felt for her grandson, I spoke to her, trying to assuage her fears and try to make her understand her grandson was just, simply, discovering himself and that's normal. That she should speak with him and maybe try to not bring her own biases first.
I hope she took to heart what I said, for both of them. Communication is one of the best ways for people to overcome their preconceptions and forge bonds. I feel like she may have.
And I hope I helped making the world a bit better
